The Mercian double headed eagle flew over the National Memorial Arboretum again on Saturday 28th April 2007 on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the formation of  Mercian Volunteers and the dedication of the stone memorial.
 This was a joyous occasion  was witnessed by a large gathering of Ex Mercians, their families and friends. Among the quests were the Chairman of Lichfield District Council, The Mayor of Lichfield, The Regimental Secretary  and The Project Officer of the Mercian  Regiment, The Chief Executive of the National Memorial Arboretum and The Commanding Officer of the West Midland Regiment later to become the 4th Bn  The Mercian Regiment (V).
The weather could not have been kinder, it was  an English summers day.
Over 300  people had gathered to be  present when  the
Association President, Brigadier H A Woolnough CBE
unveiled the  Memorial  assisted by our Chairman Colonel A B Griffiths CBE, TD.DL.JP.  The Reverend Prebendary Bob Cheadle MBE TD  led the service of dedication.
The Warwickshire Volunteer Band of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers provided the music for the reception ,
dedication, the March Past and during Lunch. 
The Eagle Dining Club
The Dining Club held a ladies night on Friday 27th April  in
 the Officers' Mess, Whittington Barracks, Lichfield in
celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the formation of
 Mercian Volunteers.
