Burton on Trent
In the Autumn the Burton on Trent members invited everyone to their annual curry supper held in the TA Centre. This was, as always, very successful with over 100 members and friends attending. Thanks are due to the Branch President, Lt Col Bridges and the staff of the TA Centre. The Branch now meets regularly under the Chairmanship of WO2 Langley, who is also Secretary at present, and Treasurer Mr J Williamson. The Branch has been entertained by the Mayor of Burton in the Mayor's Parlour. The Branch is in the process of purchasing a Branch Standard.

Stockport
The Stockport Branch goes from strength to strength with Lt Col Angel as President, Chairman WO2 Ken Ward, Secretary Mr Peter Marsh and Treasurer Mr Graham Gough.  They are supported by a very active Committee. The Annual East Cheshire reunion was well supported by the Branch. This is a Cheshire Regiment evening but ex-Mercians were invited to join them to enjoy their Cheshire 'Hot Pot' supper

The Branch led the protests when it was suggested that the name of the Mercian Way for a main street in Stockport should be changed. After many letters to the MP, the Borough Council and the local papers, it was decided that the name should stay!

The Branch attended the Mons reunion at Chester Castle in September

The Branch enjoys quite an extensive social programme throughout the year often in cooperation with Stockport Branch of the Cheshire Regiment Association. Recently they have embarked on a substantial charity programme in conjunction with Mears Group and Regimental Associations to raise money for the Stepping Hill Hospital Baby Unit (Tree House Trust Fund).

More details of the activities of the Branch can be found on their website, which has won a prize for the quality of the site.

Rugeley
The oldest of our Branches continues to flourish and meets each month at Lea Hall Social Club led by Chairman Mr Richard Bates, Secretary Mr Malcolm Withington and Treasurer Mr Brian Jones. The Branch has recently celebrated its second anniversary with a dinner.

The Branch Standard led the March Past at the Dedication Service at Alrewas and on the following day attended the ANZAC parade at Cannock Chase. This was followed by the Formation Day at Tamworth. Later in September, the Standard was paraded at the Northern Ireland Veterans' Memorial Service at Alrewas.

Rugeley Branch celebrates

The Branch was active at the Remembrance Parades in and around Rugeley.  They paraded the Standard again at the Birmingham Military Tattoo held at the National Indoor Arena in late November. The members found the event extremely interesting. The 'man' in charge of the arena was WO2 Keith Newman now with the Worcestershire ACF but originally a member of B Company 1 Mercian (V). Thank you to the members who arranged for the Standard to be present on so many occasions.

The Branch has been very active in helping other Branches to develop.  This has meant a very busy year for the members.

Richard and Malcolm held a Play your cards right stall at the Rugeley Charter Fair and raised over £100 for Branch funds.

NB
. The Branch as now moved back to the British Legion Club for their meetings.
