The Eagle Dining Club meets annually with a membership of 106 ex regular and TA officers who served with the two Mercian battalions. It is particularly well supported by its ex-regular officers and the idea for a Mercian Grove arose from a discussion among its members

The Eagle Dining Club was formed in 1976 when the numbers of serving and retired officers were growing and it was considered unfair to expect the serving officers to continue to entertain their retired colleagues. Also it was another way of cementing relationships between the two battalions.

The Club has continued to hold the dinner ever since at a number of venues in the Regimental area but has over the past few years been fortunate in being able to meet in the Officers Mess at Whittington Barracks, Lichfield by kind permission of the Commanding Officers.

The Club is open to Mercian Officers and Regular Officers who have served with Mercian Volunteers, Mercian Officers who served with the Mercian Element of Light Infantry and Mercian Volunteers, and members of the 1st and 2nd Battalions. It is normally an all male attendance, but in 2004 we held a very successful Ladies Evening to coincide with the tree planting ceremony to commemorate Mercian at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas near Lichfield.
