At a recent Committee meeting of the Association, it was proposed that a Welfare Section be formed and I was duly "volunteered" to be Welfare Officer. Some of you may remember me as RSO of 1 Mercian (approx '75 -'82).
The main aim of the Section will be involvement with welfare issues that may be beyond local level abilities. In addition, I will be responsible for issuing Birthday/Christmas cards to widows on behalf of the Association. An ex Regular Army colleague of mine is a welfare officer with the Royal British Legion so I have a good point of reference for any difficulties that may confront us.
I anticipate that sub Sections be formed at Company/Platoon level and organised by a designated Welfare Rep who will formulate a widows' database (forwarded to me for admin purposes). In addition to organising an inaugural meeting of the Welfare Section, I would like all representatives to occasionally meet during the year at a central location.
Rugeley Branch has very kindly offered to hold a social evening with proceeds going towards initially funding the Welfare Section. Any other contributions from Branches would be greatly appreciated!!
ARE THERE ANY VOLUNTEERS TO BECOME UNIT WELFARE REPS??
