SERVICE  PERSONNEL  &  VETERANS  AGENCY

I wrote to the above some time ago to obtain guidelines regarding "Preserved Pensions" that attracted substantial press coverage at the time
.
I received a reply today and have detailed below the main points for qualification of a Preserved Pension that was introduced on 31st March,1975. The information may be to the advantage of some Members:-

1. Prior to 31st March,1975, a service person had to complete 22 years regular service to  qualify for a pension.

2.  Only service persons serving on or after 31st March,1975 with 5 years or more reckonable service and providing they were aged 26 at the time of leaving regular service could qualify for a Preserved Pension.

3.  Reserve service does not count for pension purposes.

4. There has been no retrospective change to these rules.

If anyone thinks they may qualify for a Preserved Pension, the contact address is:-
